As part of the renewal of the city centre, the Centre for the Arts in Spijkenisse is being renovated, expanded and made more sustainable. For over 40 years, the centre has been a household name in Spijkenisse and with this expansion it will be preserved for the municipality of Nissewaard.

Get to work

The work started in early May. Aldermen Hamerslag and Postma celebrated the start.

The Spijkse Trap connects the Nieuwstraat and the Uitplein, making the area more accessible. The entrance is being expanded so that it can serve as a multifunctional ‘Living Room for the City’ and a public toilet building is being built.

At the same time, the Centre is expanding with two extra floors. This creates more space for art and culture in the city. There will be practice rooms for bands and a larger theatre for small-scale performances. There is also room for other art forms and new media.

Nomination 'Most Inspiring City Centre Project'

The project already received recognition with a nomination for ‘Most Inspiring City Centre Project 2024’. The Spijkse Trap project was nominated for its inspiring approach that serves multiple goals at once and tackles multiple problems at once. For example, there was a lot of vacancy and little variation in the facilities.

Proud

Manhave Vastgoed is proud to be part of this project, in collaboration with the Municipality of Nissewaard, Van Waning Bouw B.V., Airlet Continental and AG project partners bv.
